Learn About Our Partner Projects

We are members of many University-wide, collegiate, and inter-institutional committees, organizations, and work teams. Some of these are described below. We also engage in public outreach activities by producing a television show and sponsoring many events that are open to the public.

Campus

Academic Technology Advisory Committee

We work with other Office of Information Technology staff members and collegiate and coordinate campus faculty, staff, and student representatives to explore the use of, implement, evaluate, and support technologies that are or might be used for teaching and learning at the University of Minnesota.

Active Learning General Purpose Classroom Initiative

We have partnered with the Office of Classroom Management on a one-year pilot project to support two new learning spaces on campus (2-260 EE-CSci and 64 BioSciences). We work with instructors to evaluate their and students' use of and satisfaction with these new learning spaces, as well as provide consultation services for instructors to help them maximize student learning.

Bush Foundation ITTS Initiative

We work with the Center for Teaching and Learning and faculty and instructional staff members on the Twin Cities campus on a Bush Foundation-funded project to improve student learning in large classes.

Game Research and Virtual Environment Lab

With the Institute for New Media Studies and the Digital Technology Center, we sponsor activities to help campus instructors and students conduct game and virtual environment research.

Instructional Technology Fellows Program, CEHD and CLA

We help support graduate students employed by these colleges to work directly with faculty to raise awareness of and integrate instructional technology tools into their teaching.

Provost's Council for Enhancing Student Learning

We serve on the Provost's Council for Enhancing Student Learning, a representative body that seeks to enhance educational effectiveness in the colleges and schools, departments, and classrooms on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota.

Senate Committee on Information Technologies (SCIT)

We serve on the University Senate Committee on Information Technologies which represents faculty, academic professional, civil service, and student interests in the development, implementation, and distribution of information technologies at the University.

TEL Council

We serve on the TEL (technology-enhanced learning) Council. The council formulates a long-term strategy to support and encourage activities that strengthen the University of Minnesota's teaching mission.

University Technology-Enhanced Learning Leaders (UTELL)

We provide support to this group of collegiate and departmental volunteers who help instructors and designers use WebVista.

Inter-Institutional

Committee on Institutional Cooperation Learning Technology Group

We serve on the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) Learning Technology (LT) Group. The CIC is a consortium of 12 research universities working to advance academic excellence by sharing resources and promoting and coordinating collaborative activities across the member universities. The LT group is comprised primarily of those individuals responsible for overseeing university course management systems and providing support to faculty who use these systems on the CIC campuses.

EDUCAUSE

The University of Minnesota is a member institution of EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. We serve with others as representatives of the Office of Information Technology.

EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative

We are a member of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI), a coalition of institutions, organizations, and corporations committed to advancing learning through information technology innovation.

New Media Consortium

We are a member of the New Media Consortium (NMC), an international 501(c)3 not-for-profit consortium of nearly 250 learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies.

SLOAN Consortium

We are a member of the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C). It helps learning organizations continually improve the quality, scale, and breadth of their online programs according to their own distinctive missions, so that education will become a part of everyday life, accessible and affordable for anyone, anywhere, at any time, in a wide variety of disciplines.

Public Outreach

Tech Talk

With staff members of Academic and Distributed Computing Services, another unit of the Office of Information Technology, we produce a 30-minute TV show to help community members learn more about the digital technology we encounter in our everyday lives.
